Guidelines For Applicants.  Only for Full Members wishing to upgrade to Practising Categories with recognition by A.F.N.T. for Therapeutic Goods Regulations - Schedule 1.

Schedule 1 of the Therapeutic Goods Regulations comprises a list of organizations who may distribute advertising material from the Manufacturers of Registered Products, to their members. The Therapeutic Goods Act and Regulations require that Manufacturers of Registered Products only advertise in this way. They may not send specification sheets or other advertising material to anyone who is not recognised by an organization listed on Schedule 1.

Schedule 1 is not intended to be a system of accrediting practitioners, as may have been suggested by some other organizations. Unfortunately the A.F.N.T. is unable to issue an Exemption Certificate, as other organisations currently do, as there is no provision in the Therapeutic Goods Act or Regulations for us to do so. Similarly a TGA number is not available, the TGA do not issue them.

We at the A.F.N.T. Inc. accept the wording and spirit of the Therapeutic Goods Act and Regulations and therefore confine our activities to controlling the distribution of restricted advertising material as we are required to do.

All Full Members of the A.F.N.T. who complete the correct application procedure as required by the A.F.N.T. Inc. Committee and are then recognised by the Federation's Committee, will receive advertising material for the types of products they have been recognised for. We will also send a courtesy letter acknowledging that we have recognised the member under Schedule 1 of the Therapeutic Goods Regulations and indicate for which types of products. We are currently the only organisation to give this recognition in such a detailed manner, so as to make it easy for suppliers to identify whether a practitioner is both trained and recognised to use a particular type of product.

It has recently been drawn to our attention that some people who ask the Therapeutic Goods Administration for a copy of Schedule 1 are receiving old copies which are not up to date. We've spoken with them and this has hopefully now been fixed. A.F.N.T. is organisation "3B" on Schedule 1. There were 39 organisations listed the last time we checked.
